|Gogebic County Veterans Office (GCVO) is the Gogebic County operator of Disabled American Veterans (DAV) medical transportation to the Iron Mountain Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC). The service is for ambulatory veterans, disabled or not, who need medical care. However, GCVO/DAV is not permitted or equipped to transport persons needing oxygen or wheelchairs. All service is provided at no charge by volunteer drivers.
The GCVO/DAV van operates only Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Ride requests are preferred as far in advance as possible. Vans depart from a garage behind the Ironwood Public Safety Department (at 123 West Mcleod Avenue) for VAMC at 5:00 am. Passengers can arrange to be picked up anywhere along Highway US-2. Passengers should make their medical providers aware that they will be traveling by the van and should be finished with appointments by 2 pm Central Time if possible, as this is when the van typically leaves VAMC to bring veterans home.
HCVA operates in coordination with Veterans Transportation Service, which operates directly out of the Iron Mountain Veterans Medical Center and is publicly funded.
