Houghton County Veterans Affairs

Houghton County Veterans Affairs (HCVA) is a local operator of Disabled American Veterans (DAV) medical transportation to the Iron Mountain Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC). HCVA also picks up patients in Keweenaw, Baraga, and Iron Counties. The service is for ambulatory veterans, disabled or not, who need medical care. However, HCVA/DAV is not permitted or equipped to transport persons needing oxygen or wheelchairs. All service is provided at no charge by volunteer drivers.

The HCVA/DAV van operates only when needed but is available every weekday VAMC is open. Ride requests are preferred 48 hours in advance if possible. Vans depart for VAMC in early morning. Passengers should make their medical providers aware that they will be traveling by the van and must be finished with appointments by 2 pm, when the van leaves VAMC to bring veterans home.

HCVA operates in coordination with Veterans Transportation Service, which operates directly out of the Iron Mountain Veterans Medical Center and is publicly funded.
